forestry ground preparation
forestry work Kielder
After a forest `coupe` has been felled they leave it for a bit, maybe a year or so, this allows the brash to break down a little, then we go in to `prepare` the ground for replanting.
This operation is done by using a slightly modified tracked excavator to make mounds of earth placed at approximately 2 metre centres in a grid formation. Each mound will then have a tree planted on it. Ideally we have to achieve 2800 mounds per hectare. Grid checks are done across the site to make sure this is obtained. This is important to get the right density of trees in the new planting.
